Uninstall the Device Scout

Device Scout supports two uninstall modes: standard, which preserves configuration data and certificates, and clean, which removes all Device Scout and Secure Print Service components and data.

After you uninstall Device Scout, it appears with an “Uninstalled” status on the Discover > Device screen.

Standard and clean uninstall options

When you uninstall Device Scout from the Windows Start menu, you can choose how completely the software is removed. After you launch the uninstaller and approve the UAC (Windows security) prompt, a screen appears where you select one of two uninstall modes.

Both modes remove the Device Scout and Secure Print Service applications. The difference is how much data remains on the server afterward:

  • Standard uninstallremoves the applications but preserves certificates and configuration data to support future upgrades or reinstalls. These folders are retained:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Secure Print Service\App_Data

    • C:\ProgramData\HP\DeviceScout

    • C:\ProgramData\HP\HP Secure Print Service

  • Clean uninstall removes all Device Scout and Secure Print Service components — applications, services, configuration, certificates, logs, and the data folders listed above. No residual data remains on the server after the uninstall.

Note: Uninstalls initiated from Control Panel > Programs and Features or Windows Settings > Apps don't show the mode-selection screen. These uninstalls follow the legacy behavior described below.

Standard and clean uninstall options are available in Device Scout 1.26.0 and later.

Uninstall from Control Panel or Windows Settings

To uninstall Device Scout:

  1. On the machine where Device Scout is installed, open Control Panel > Programs and Features, or open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older versions of Windows).

  2. Locate HP Device Scout in the list of installed applications.

  3. Select , HP Device Scout then click Uninstall and follow the prompts to complete the removal.

Note: By default, uninstalling Device Scout does not remove its configuration data or log files from the server.

Remove a Device Scout record from HP Insights

To remove a Device Scout record from the Discover > Device Scout page, select the Device Scout you want to remove, then click Delete.

Note: Deleting a Device Scout record from the web console removes it from the Device Scout list only. It does not uninstall the Device Scout software from the server where it is installed.
